Although I was only able to choose one winner for my Sprout Wellness Giveaway (congrats Jennifer Manzano!), I have good news! Sprout Wellness is generously offering all of my readers 25% off their awesome products (plus orders over $50 get FREE SHIPPING) – using coupon code: KRISTEN. This offer is good until the end of February 2011. Whoot! I’m excited. Thank you, Sprout Wellness!
I’m a bit behind on my blogging because in addition to doing all things mommy to my 5-month old baby girl, Kamea, I’m dealing with my dog’s recently diagnosed Lymphoma status (details here). He’s doing better the past two days, thankfully. His news really hit me hard but I’m getting on top of it. I’m inspired by Kris Carr’s new book, Crazy Sexy Diet, to help Zeus kick this cancer’s ass. (The book rocks! It’s awesome for getting anyone off their tooshie to kick their health into high gear and be super stoked to do it.) And, while walking yesterday, my inspired flame was ignited by listening to L. L. Cool J’s “Mama Said Knock You Out” because that’s what I’m going to help Zeus do to that cancer (I’m his mama after all!).
Here I am… still pregnant. My baby is snuggled up nicely inside me and doesn’t want to come out yet. I’m happy just the same – I feel really great (except for last night’s incident – detailed next).
Last night my husband and I met up with Robert Cheeke (vegan bodybuilder) and our dear friend, Malynda (she’s training for a fitness competition – vegan and high raw). We had a great time. However, I decided to wear sandals that had a little chunky heel to them. And, we found ourselves standing for about an hour as we kept talking in the parking lot after the restaurant closed. Well… in the middle of the night, I woke up literally screaming in pain for about 20 seconds because of the most intense calf spasm pain (apparently this can be common in pregnancy: read here). Seeing as I have pretty much only worn CROCS for the past three years AND I wore heels last night while 41 weeks pregnant AND I was standing for a long time… I guess it’s no wonder that my body reacted this way. I took some magnesium this morning to help (my calf is actually still sore(!), and I plan on giving my feeties a rest today. No problem… I’ll kick back, prop my feet up and read Robert’s book, Vegan Bodybuilding & Fitness.
I have heard the most amazing reviews about this book (have you read it yet?). Here are a few testimonials from Robert’s website:
“We just received your book, and love it. It is very thorough, and we found it inspiring, motivational, and much more than expected. We have been vegan for five years and try to be athletic and keep fit. Your book will be our top book. Thanks so much for it. It was worth the wait, and thank you for signing it, makes it more personal.”
“If I may say so…I’m not the least bit surprised (about the success of your book). It was almost 10 years ago when Melanie and I heard about this young, vegan body builder. We thought, “What a great inspiration for young vegans and vegetarians. I wonder if he’ll let one of the kids interview him.” And you did. You jumped on it. You were ready to share info, inspiration, and just be available to the kids. That put you on the top of my list. Well earned, well deserved and well done. Keep up the great work!”
I’ve had to take a tiny break from blogging for a few days because I’m in the nesting and resting mode right now. I have some Kristen’s Raw projects to finish up (hopefully) before baby arrives, along with the usual…. organize, clean, rest, plan, etc. Any day now and my labor will begin. I’m so excited!
I recently posted on my facebook update basically asking the following: “What mommy or postpartum advice do you have? Was there something you wish you had known that you know now? Was there a piece of advice someone gave you that was essential?”
I received many great answers with the most popular being “sleep when the baby sleeps.” With facebook however, the status gets buried so its life for others to view it is short. I wanted to have a blog post with some great advice that would be easy to access for all the future mommies out there.

When asked, “What Mommy and/or Green related topics do you want to see me cover on Green Mommy Blog?”
Here is what Tillie7 had to say…
I would love to hear more about a budget friendly vegan, mostly raw, eco-conscious way of living!! Balancing finances is so difficult in my household (I have been into this lifestyle barely a year yet, so still learning!) especially when remainder of family members who don’t follow my way living, let alone understand wonder why I have to be organic only. This is the way I choose to live and I will not change=) All your recommendations are so lovely I wish I could afford EVERYTHING! =) hehe but that and also newly vegan has been tough…sometimes I feel amazing, days I feel I can barely make it…I am missing something in my diet..what do you suggest on supplements and smart much needed info for (other than B-12) for new vegans?? Thank you soo much Kristen you’re the BEST!
Here is what Bex had to say…
I would love to see posts about ways to help kids be comfortable being vegan and raw and their non-vegan (often omnivorous) friends houses when mommy’s not around.
I wrote recently that my family plans on trying Elimination Communication for our baby, but there are times we’ll need some cloth diapers. Therefore, I attended a cloth diaper class where they went through all kinds of cloth diaper options. Holy moly! There are so many! It’s exciting, yet a little overwhelming. I realize in the long run that cloth diapers should be cheaper, but what if I buy the wrong ones? Hhmmm…. well, I have some thinking to do (I took notes in the class and I need to review them). I’ll report back here on Green Mommy Blog about our choices. We also learned about wipe options, diaper bags, diaper containers, ways to wash baby’s bum, etc.
From what I can tell so far, I suspect we’ll use a variety of them for different situations. I know for sure that we’ll only choose options with organic cotton, bamboo, or hemp options. No wool, since we’re vegan. With that in mind… I’d love to know what your favorites are, so please feel free to share in the comment section.
Congratulations Rachel V! Your name was chosen as the winner of my 3rd Green Mommy Blog Giveaway. The prize: A Free Morrocco Method’s Zen Detox Hair & Scalp Therapy. Simply email me with your address so I can get the prize sent to you.
When asked, “Who is your favorite historical figure and why?”
Here is what Rachel V had to say…
My favorite historical figure was Joan of Arc because she was a radical woman for her time!! She was extrodinary and inspired her fellow citizens, even though she ultimately did not see victory and passed away. Check out my facebook & twitter (RachelMSW) for repost/retweet. Love ya

I’m very excited to share my latest project with all of you, Kristen Suzanne’s Green Mommy Blog. Currently, I blog over at Kristen’s Raw, but I found over the past 6 months or so that I was blogging about a lot of things that weren’t food related. So! I decided to start this blog so I can blog to my heart’s content about all things Green and Mommy Related, while keeping my Kristen’s Raw blog more food related.
