Over the weekend we had friends visit from out of town. On Saturday evening we met up with them at a local restaurant, Calistro Bistro (only a couple miles from home) so we didn’t have to venture out far, or for long. But, when Sunday rolled around, we knew we would need to do more than just meet up a few miles away. They did travel to visit us after all! Lol. So, we packed up Kamea and the car full of everything we thought we might need for a day away from home. I packed all kinds of stuff… just in case. And, boy, I’m glad I did because it made it easier on us to have options throughout the day. We had our Beco Baby Carrier, Orbit stroller, Orbit stroller seat (not the car seat that attaches. We opted to bring the more comfortable stroller seat and leave the car seat in the car), diaper bag with the normal stuff (diapers, wipes, toys, blanket, hat, changing pad, etc), the normal nursing pillow I use at home, booster chair for restaurant, snacks for us, extra blanket… I think that’s it.
We started the day at the Arizona Museum of Contemporary Art where I wore Kamea in the Beco for the duration. So far so good. It was a pretty quick walk through with Kamea seeing some “interesting” stuff.
Then, we went to a beautiful resort, Gainey Ranch at the Hyatt, and this turned out to be fantastic and quite “baby friendly” in a way. We had a few couches to sit on, in a semi-private setting, for all of us to visit. When it came time to nurse, I just went to the couch in the back, and laid down and nursed her. Awesome. Then, later when she was fussy bored, I put the Beco back on and walked around the big beautiful resort which offered her so many new things to see! After that, I put her in the stroller seat and pushed it back and forth til she fell asleep and she had a lovely 1 hour nap.
After the resort, we went to Dr. Weil’s new True Food Kitchen restaurant in North Scottsdale for dinner. It’s in a beautiful outdoor mall with water fountains and shops. We had to wait for a table, but Kamea was a champ. I wore her in the Beco Gemini while we waited, walking her around to see different things in and out of the restaurant. Once it was time to sit (the restaurant was very busy), I pushed the stroller up to the table and gave her toys for entertainment while we perused the menu and ordered. But. That was short lived. And, it was getting close to nursing time again. I knew I’d have a hard time nursing her in the restaurant because it was very noisy, busy, and most importantly, the chair I was sitting in would’ve made it uncomfortable for both of us. So, I took her back to the car, where I had my big nursing pillow. Ahhhh. Perfect. She nursed furiously like she was on a mission. We went back to the restaurant where my food had just arrived, and I scarfed it down because Kamea was starting to get a little fussy again. Then, I put her back in the Beco and walked around while the rest of our party finished dinner.
It was a long day, but I feel accomplished in that we were away from home for so long. She did great – Whoo hoo! I wonder where our next adventure will take us.
