Kamea’s 4 Month Doctor Visit

Today, we took Kamea for her 4 month check up. She’s 16 1/2 weeks and has her four month birthday early next week. She’s all decked out in her fall colors and organic fashion.

She did AWESOME with her doctor. Kamea weighed in at 13 pounds, 14 ounces and her length is 25 3/4 inches. That makes her in the 50th percentile for weight and 90th percentile for length. We have a tall girl. Will she be a supermodel? A professional tennis player (I think Anna Kournikova is tall)? Hmmmm… I wonder I wonder.

Kamea is growing, thriving, happy, and easily meeting her developmental milestones. In fact, she’s already bearing weight on her legs and loves to stand (with our hands loosely on her in case she falls down of course). She gets the biggest smile on her face when she stands, like she’s really proud of herself. Kamea is not one to just lie back (never was really). No. She wants to have us sit her up or stand her up so she can see what’s going on. She loves being worn for short periods of time and seems especially happy when I wear her facing out. See that grin?

    She’s so beautiful…just like her mommy!

    Glad she’s doing so wonderfully…and your trip to WF’s in the last post…I remember my 1st trip to the groc store w/ Skylar. She screamed the whole time! Scott isn’t the world’s greatest shopper so I kinda just had to go…ha!

    My son just had his two month dr. visit today! Ouch! 3 shots! But he did really well. Thanks for sharing your experiences with Kamea – it's been nice reading about your first time taking her out, etc.

    Kamea is a sweetie. I'm glad she is so healthy and happy. I wanted to send out a warning about “standing her up”. You may want to ask your doctor about that. Remember all the reasons you decided to forgo a super saucer or jumperoo, those are some of the reasons you may not want to stand her up so young. My toddler was as precocious as Kamea. Let her figure it out on her one and “stand up” when her muscles are ready. Just my two cents…

    What a beautiful smile! Wow, my son only recently started bearing weight on his legs…well a few months ago anyway. But every baby is different and I get the feeling that my son does things when he chooses to do them and not when someone else says so. I'll just get used to that now so later on its not a big deal!

    Im aware of that and already researched it. She is doing it because

    she loves it and is ready. My research and doc say to be careful when

    a baby doesn't want it but if she's ready now then she can. Every baby

    develops differently and kamea is actually a little advanced. As you

    can see, my doc is doing it in the photo. ;)

    Ex… Some babies skip crawling and go to walking.

    Skipping crawling is definitely something else to research. There are a lot of opinions on that one. Many experts believe that skipping crawling is something that has far-reaching deleterious effects on multiple aspects of development. By five months my daughter could pull herself up to standing without a problem and then proceeded to crawl until she walked fluidly at nine months. I did just what you are doing when she was four months until I was warned by my cranio-sacral therapist (she was having sleep issues).

    I am aware that crawling has many developmental elements. And, I don't

    think many babies skip crawling, but I will let her do naturally what

    she wants. I'm not sure one can force a baby to crawl if the baby

    doesn't want to?

    I was merely making a point earlier about how babies can develop

    differently. I suspect Kamea will crawl. She already kicks her legs in

    that motion. I am doing mommy-ing naturally and not forcing things. I

    am letting Kamea take the lead. That is my instinct which is important.

    My son is pretty close to Kamea's age, I can hardly wait to see what kind of Raw baby food you are going to make! My Doctor has suggested solid foods around 6 months, so there is a little bit of time before I have to worry!

    It's going to be very simple for a while. There will be some cooked

    veg in her diet too. I'm going to hopefully wait until some teeth

    before introducing solids. That could be 7 months or so.

    Just a note, I know they have the tale double height at age 2 or something to predict adult height, but truth is that is not an accurate way to tell. In most cases it doesn't have much to do with adult height. The average height for women is 5'4/5'5 and most of them were in high height percentiles as babies, I know myself I was in the 98% for height and I am only 5'5. So I wouldn't put in too much stock in her height now for being an adult. My dad was 6'5 and my mom was 5'7 and I am still 5'5. It's all a big mystery!!
    Babies all grow at different speeds and sometimes they just level out and go into the medium.
    Plus it takes more than height to be a supermodel or tennis player :)
