Green Mommy Blog 1st Awesome Giveaway – iHerb Shopping Spree!

topics: Giveaway
by Kristen Suzanne

One of my favorite things to do is have giveaways on my other blog over at Kristen’s Raw (we do them a lot!). It seems only fitting that I carry on the tradition over here at Green Mommy Blog. To start us off – my first giveaway is from iHerb. This nifty online store, offering a number of environmentally friendly products, gave me a little shopping spree. Here are the cool things I picked out for myself (Dr. Bronner’s Soap in rose scent, organic cotton balls, vitamin B12, Spirulina tablets, Chlorella tablets, and Soap Nuts liquid soap). I haven’t tried the Soap Nuts liquid soap yet, but I love everything else.

Now, it can be your turn! One lucky winner will get a $50 shopping spree at iHerb to pick out $50 of merchandise of your choosing. All you have to do to participate is answer the following question (both parts!) in this post’s comment section. Entries will be accepted until March 13th at 11:59pm. I will randomly draw a name and announce the winner on Green Mommy Blog March 14th. *Please note: this giveaway is open to US and International participants, but if you live outside of the United States, you’ll be responsible for any customs fees that apply.

Question: What is your favorite eco-friendly product and why?

Want another chance to win? Retweet a link to this post on twitter and come back to let me know in a separate comment.

Want yet another chance to win? Link to this post via your Facebook page and come back to let me know in a separate comment.

Want yet another chance to win? Post about this giveaway on your blog, linking back to it, and then let me know in a separate comment.

But wait! That’s not all! If you’d like to do some shopping there in the near future, iHerb is also extending a $5 off discount for your first order. If you make a purchase while you’re there, be sure to use the code BUY123 when you check out (again, only applies if this is your first order with them).

WAIT! I have one more thing to share! I have a lovely line up of Giveaways that I’ll be posting this month to celebrate the launch of Green Mommy Blog. Check back for details!

My favorite eco-friendly product is my cloth diapers. Is that too generic? I love them because I am not putting toxic chemicals against my little one's most sensitive parts and I am not contributing tons of trash each year.

Your new blog is so cute! What a great idea.

My favorite eco-friendly “product” is reusable grocery and produce bags. I don't know if these qualify as what you have in mind for products, but they are an easy thing that anyone can do to save some paper or plastic bags from ending up in a landfill. When I use my cloth produce bags, I've had more than one checker comment on how cool they are… like they don't see them that often, which is too bad. If you buy lots of fruits and veggies like I do, it only makes sense to use bags that you can use over and over again. And if buying cloth bags is out of your budget, reuse the plastic ones until they fall apart!

  • Eve

I'm excited to read more of this blog! I would love to try those soap nuts, they sound so neat. Does it count if I say that my favourite eco-friendly product is amazing vegan food? :) Thanks for the giveaway!

  • Colleen Quinn

    Hi Kristen,

I am an avid, long-time reader. Figured I would come out and comment with this introduction of the new blog! I'm only twenty, and years away from motherhood, but I love reading about your journey. Thanks for all of the knowledge regarding raw food, pregnancy, and general lifestyle.

My favorite eco-friendly product is my dry skin brush made by yerba prima. My largest eliminative organ (the skin!) is able to release toxins every morning thanks to this environmentally responsible company!

  • krystal

I'd have to say my favorite eco-friendly product is vinegar. I use it for EVERYTHING!!! It cleans way better than chemical cleaners and I mix it with water and my favorite essential oil and it smells amazing! I also use apple cider vinegar as my conditioner ;)

  • Stephanie

I love Green and Eco-Friendly Cleaning products! It's so nice to keep my family clean and healthy and not have to worry about poisoning them. Green and eco-friendly products are not only great for the environment, but have helped us stay healthy and avoid the skin irritants and allergy upsetters in “commercial” products. Love it!

  • MissionVegan

Fuzzi Bunz for diapers and Imse Vinse training pants! I also love Weleda calendula diaper cream.

  • Joanna_Steven

My favorite product is Desert Essence face cleanser. That thing cleans my face really well, makes it shine, and is totally the best to clean the bathtub, toilet etc. No kidding! And it's super cheap too.

  • Joanna_Steven

I have posted about this on my blog,

  • Joanna_Steven

I have posted about it on Facebook. Thanks!

  • vegyogini

My favorite eco-friendly product is my Sigg bottle, hands down! It's my constant companion, conversation-starter (it reads “Make Love Not Landfill”), and blissful reminder that I'm not contributing to the wasteful plastic bottled water industry. The best part is that it was a surprise gift from my best friend. Thanks for the giveaway!

  • Marcella Frater

My favorite green product is Simply Floored green floor cleaner. It works just like Mop and Glo without all the icky chemicals.

  • Jennifer

I have a tie between vinegar and seventh generations non-chlorine bleach I do not think I could survive cleaning with out them! But really vinegar is the real winner for me, I use it to clean everything!

  • junghwa

i really love bronner's magic soap!

  • tijja

Love the new blog! Congrats Kristen!

  • jamie

Dr. Bronner's Peppermint soap – I use it as my shampoo and body wash. The peppermint smell is absolutely incredible – fresh, clean, relaxing. I also like reading parts of the bottle while scrubbing my hair – it makes me happy reading everything on it :)

  • eeeks

My favorite eco-friendly product is makeup by Larenim (mineral spelled backward)! I found them a few years ago via the Skin Deep website and fell in love with their products. I'm a huge fan of Dusk to Dawn to help calm down my combo skin (this stuff, combined with dry skin brushing, has helped soooo much!). Their foundations are nice too, and provide sun protection, and they have a phenomenal number of nifty eye shadow colors. Also really like their mascara. In fact, their stuff is pretty much the only makeup I wear anymore and they seem sadly under represented when people talk about awesome eco-friendly makeup! This stuff ROCKS.

  • BrookieCookie

Yay for the new blog! I love it already!

My favorite eco-friendly product is raw organic coconut oil. I use this stuff for everything – from cooking to skin moisturizer to eye makeup remover and even for antibacterial ointment for cuts. I love the stuff!

  • bird_feed

My new computer that uses way less energy than my previous desktop.

  • jensanders52

I'm not sure if this counts, but my favorite eco-friendly products are the recycling bins I have set up in my third grade classroom. By having these bins accesable to students, they are more aware of how they can reduce their carbon footprint.

I was extremely surprised and utterly pleased when they began using recycled paper to make books this month!!! They folded the paper so the printed side was not showing and stapled it together to make mini-books. Now they love writing and saving the environment!!!

  • Amy

My favorite eco friendly product is Dr. Bronner's soap because I can use it for everything including my little boy.

  • Angelica

I think my current favorite eco-friendly product is raw coconut oil. I use it as my primary moisturizer when I shower (it's sooo gentle, especially for my face), in my food, and it's antimicrobial so I've even snorted it when I felt a nasal infection coming on! Hahaha — a little weird, but it works.

  • lovethefitlife

  • elaine

yay for the new blog!! the layout is beautiful to look at :D also much thanks for holding this wonderful giveaway! my favorite eco friendly product is somewhat unexciting, but its this reusable canvas tote that was passed down to me from my mom. She used it as a backpack when she was a student in China! I use it for grocery shopping (only the lighter things though) and it just puts such a smile on my face to know where this bag has been and all that it has given to me and my family!

My favorite eco-friendly product would have to be white vinegar. I use it to make all of my own cleaning products, for unclogging sinks, killing weeds, etc. It's also great in the rinse cycle – it's the only thing I've found that'll get rid of the stinky diaper funk!

  • susansunnylarson

And while I was in Michigan I bought you 2 shopping bags with Monkey's as a print… For all you new people. …I AM KRISTEN SUZANNE'S MOTHER….. wow, love it, I am not a mom but am still looking forward to all of your green tips, especially on personal care products! My favorite green product is simple, my reusable bags. • Johanna

my favorite eco-friendly product these days has been my raw coconut oil. Mostly because I can hang out on the bathroom floor with my 20 month old (who loves “lo-lo” short for lotion) and put it on as moisturizer. I don't have to worry about her rubbing it on her feet, hands, mouth. She's happy, I'm happy, the earth is happy.

  • Jenny

I'm quite excited about this blog! It is hard to choose one fav eco friendly product, but I'll choose my constant companion, my Kleen Kanteen bottle. I love it because I don't clog the landfills and oceans with plastic junk, and it helps me stay hydrated during my pregnancy! My 22 month old has his own mini version in his favorite color!

  • Myriam Black

Baking soda. It's guaranteed to be safe and healthy. It's good for everything from cleaning my toilet to washing hair and it's cheap.

My favorite eco-friendly product is the aluminum water bottle. I love it because first of all, it's not made of plastic, so you don't have BPA in it. Second, you can take it anywhere and not have to buy bottled water while traveling. Third, when you are on the go, you can fill it up anywhere for free on soda machines from gas stations, fast food restaurants, etc; you can also even get inspired to become one with nature and go find your own spring water! Best of all, you don't have to keep constantly worrying about throwing away plastic bottles that will never decompose…And all you have to do is throw it in the dishwasher or use boiling water to clean it! Not to mention, you will save tons of money using it instead of buying bottled water so you can buy more and more raw food! :-)

  • Miho

My eco-friendly product is my reusable bag because they are stylish, handy, and shows off how much you're doing goodness to the world!

  • Miho

  • annieschilperoort

I LOVE Dr. Bronner's soap ~ especially the Peppermint! I use it with my morning shower and it helps me wake up. I cleaned our toilet with it once in a pinch. Oh and I love Seventh Generation dishwasher soap. Just makes me feel good when my kids are eating off their plates to know what they were washed with was nontoxic, etc. :)

  • Fitncrafty

My favorite eco-friendly product is my reusable shopping bags.. Not sure if this is what you are getting at. However it is my favorite. There is no excuse, they don’t cost etc and it is one of the simplest changes I have made, no more piles and piles of plastic bags under my sink or anywhere else!

  • Metta

I love Dr. Bronner’s soaps b/c they are gentle on my skin, smell good, have an unscented option when my skin is being particularly sensitive, and rinse clean – no film or gooey feeling that some soaps leave. Also the fun reading on the label.

  • winkieandjuliet

At the moment my favorite eco-friendly product is organic unrefined coconut oil. The reason is bc I use it for cosmetic and nutritional purposes. Everything tastes better with it. As for cosmetic my skin and hair is the healthiest it has ever been. I even use it for the occasional diaper rash on my 2 boys.

  • ali

Organic unrefined coconut oil. I love how it tastes and I love the cosmetic abilities of this amazing smelling oil. I even use it for the occassional diaper rash on my two little guys.

  • Alexis

  • Gena

Congrats on your AWESOME new endeavor!

And I like soap nuts a lot. Thanks for this giveaway!

  • Samantha

My favorite eco friendly product is a water purifier!! I was amazed and horrified to see how many plastic bottles and containers we go through every year as a country. Water is THE most important nutrient for us, but when we buy bottled water, not only is plastic leeched into the water (yuck for our bodies) but we also create SO much waste! By buying a water purifier, you get clean fresh water, without polluting the enviornment!!

  • max

my favorite eco friendly product is my organic korres jasmine body butter. It's vegan, organic, in a recycled container and it's sooo nice after a hot shower.

My favorite eco friendly product is Shaklee’s Basic H2. It is ultra-concentrated and it can be used for so many things. I use it on my plants to keep away the bugs, I clean all the surfaces in my house with it and I don’t have to worry about it being around my daughter or our pets. Great Stuff!

  • Amy

All the kid and baby hand-me-downs I receive from my friends! Our circle of hand-me-downs moves from child to child, and I love seeing my son's old clothes coming to life again on another child, just as my friend loves to see her 2 year old's clothes on my baby girl. Cotton is a very wasteful crop, whether it's organic or not, it requires much water in our world where many people lack clean water to begin with. Rather than purchasing new baby clothes, more people should consider reusing and sharing! Afterall, babies and children grow like weeds! and many outfits are worn once or twice only before they don't fit anymore.

  • Janet

My Diva cup and my stainless steel reusable drinking straws!!

  • Ashley

My fave eco friendly product? Yeesh, that's a toughy. I think I'll say my Yes to Carrots lip balms- I love how they make my lips feel! Actually, the whole product line is amazing! :)

Hmmm…it's hard to choose. I've had great diapering luck with our organic Bumgenius 3.0 cloth diapers, and I love the baby soap and baby products from Lusa (a local WI producer) at They have a great unscented calendula soap, wipe juice concentrate, and their fantastic 'booty balm'.

  • Janelle

I think my favorite is plain 'ol vinegar – you can eat it, clean with it, and I actually love the smell!

  • Annica Janes

    Fav Eco-Friendly Product: Coconut oil!

I came across these in the regular grocery store and picked them up because they are made from the agave plant and recycled paper. My favorite green product is 2am Miracle! Works for the 3 P's…Poop, pee and puke! Perfect products for mommas!

  • Randi

Definitely my Soya Power Plus. In addition to it being tons cheaper, not to mention healthier, I'm not creating plastic or cardboard waste due to packaging, and my carbon footprint is smaller because the water weight of store bought milk or soy milk is not being shipped cross country before it gets to my table. I pay for organic, local-ish soybeans at my local health food store, throw in a bit of oatmeal and rice, and voila. Cheap, healthy, easy.

I just bought ingredients for making laundry detergent, too. I always feel guilty when buying things that are mostly water and in big plastic containers.

  • Karen

My favorite eco-friendly product is henna. I love indulging my girly side by coloring my hair, and it makes me proud that I am not soaking my hair in chemicals that will rinse off into the ground/water supply. Great giveaway!
