Evie’s Kitchen

by Kristen Suzanne

Evie’s Kitchen is a delightful book written by Shazzie (a UK sassy super star!). I have many pages in this book tabbed for future reference when my baby is here. This book contains recipes as well as her wisdom about natural birthing, breastfeeding, attachment parenting, co-sleeping, natural immunity and first-aid, and more. It’s FILLED with fun and playful pictures.

So, what do you think of Shazzie's article cautioning parents against raising their kids 100% vegan?

Would love to see an article here in response.

As an young adult who was raised semi-vegan (not raw, but lots raw), I've had some serious health consequences as a result of my parent's choices. They didn't let me drink soda or consume sugar, for which I'll be forever grateful, but they didn't give me all the nutrition I required, either.

This resulted in some pretty wicked sick (in a bad way) years for me as a malnourished teenager.

Raw animal milk has been a major healing food for me. And I've visited the animals who provide it, I know how they're being treated insanely well. So my inner vegan is cool with it. And my body is way happier.

Here's a quote from Shazzie: “I make absolutely no apologies for raising this issue. I will continue to raise it until we get a generation of healthy raw children. Believe me, I will not make this convenient for the hardline raw vegans out there and scuttle off under a stone, feeling like a failure. They've done that to enough mothers, but they cannot do it to me — I have no fear and a huge audience.”

May your daughter be one of those healthy raw children.

    Hi Kait,

I've been basically high raw, all vegan for some time now, including

during my pregnancy. (Some days I'm all raw, some days high raw and

some days moderately raw.) I plan on raising my daughter the same.

People have been raising healthy vegan babies for a long time.

Moreover, I supplement and pay close attention to nutrition (my

healthy vegan pregnancy and baby are proof of that – her growth is

amazing. She's thriving on my breastmilk which is from a supplemented

plant based diet) so I'm not concerned at all. I plan my family's food

    weekly with intent.

As to whether an all raw diet is right for kids… I don't know. It

would depend on supplementing, the diet, and other factors.

    Thx for your question. :)
